ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

The story of Noah's Ark is a metaphoric story.  The story teaches us something about our relationship with nature.  According to the story, Noah's generation was living selfishly on the earth.  As a result an environmental disaster threatened to destroy all life on earth.  The sea levels began to rise.  But Noah saved himself and many other animals from extinction.   You will read this story.  You might consider it from another perspective.  And then you will make a News Report about a real environmental issue from the past year.

How do we effect our environment?
How does our environment effect us?

The Environmental News Report:

As a group you are assigned an environmental disaster and create a news report.  Group One: North Pacific Gyre, Group Two: Hurricane Harvey, Group Three: Japan Tsunami, Group Five: North Bay Fires.

STEP ONE:  Read the Webpages.  You may look up additional articles to explain more of the story.  You may look up the definitions to words that you do not understand.

STEP TWO:  Using your webpages write a script for a televised News Report.  Include written parts for an anchor (who sits at the desk and narrates the story) and expert (who explains scientific parts of the story) a reporter (who reports from the site of the disaster) and a witness (a regular person who was effected by the disaster).  You may choose to have more than one expert or reporter.   Work together to write your script.  Your script should include all the information from your webpages.

What happened? Where did it happen? What caused it? How were people effected? How did people respond?

Your Script can be creative but not silly or funny, these are serious stories that effect real people and they deserve serious reporting. No silly names, jokes, ads, or bluppers.

STEP THREE:  Download 5-10 pictures relating to your News Story.   Do not use any gross pictures.  Find photos of the disaster as well as diagrams and charts that explain it.

STEP FOUR:  Video record your News Report.   Video your achor explaining the story from a desk.  Video your anchor interviewing your experts.  Video your Reporter outside in a place that looks similar to your disaster.   You may use the Camera App to video.  You may use the iPad as a telepromter.  Your expert may hold up pictures on the iPad.  You may use green screen or other special effects to make your reporter look like they are on site.  But make sure your video is not silly or funny.

STEP FIVE:  Edit your News Report in iMovie.   Include your video and your still images.  Use the “News” or CNN Report” as your iMovie Theme.

STEP SIX: Export or share your final News Report.
