HIEROGLYPHICS

Languages use symbols to describe reality.  For example, the word “cat” is a symbol for a cat.   Early writing systems used small pictures called pictograms.  Later these pictures became letters and refered to sounds, which could be combined to make words.   There are thousands of human languages.  And they are related into families.  For example, Spanish, French, and Italian are all very similar because they all grew out of Latin.  The family tree of languages leads back to the origins of humanity.

In the Book of Genesis we find the story of the Tower of Babel.  This story is a metaphor about the creation of the first cities, writing, and language.  Read the story.  And then complete the worksheets to make your own Heiroglyphic alphabet.
